February is Low Vision Awareness Month

Vision is key to quality of life in every person at every age.

Whether our vision seems perfect now, or even if we already have vision loss, it is never too late to make sure you are maintaining the vision you have to its fullest.

"One of the most rewarding things about being an eye physician and surgeon is seeing patients light up when they restore some lost vision, or know they are preventing their vision from worsening," said Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center Founder & Medical Director Emilio M. Justo, M.D.

"I see many people regain their independence and confidence to drive again, or return to beloved hobbies like reading or painting, that they thought they had lost, or would lose," he said. "We see things we can easily treat such as droopy eyelids that block the peripheral vision and thick cataracts that dim your vision, all the time, and are proud to have a strong success record at treating these conditions and transforming lives."

February is a good time to make sure you schedule at least an annual eye exam, to also ensure that none of the eye conditions known as "silent theives of vision" are sneaking up on us. We often don't as easily see vision conditions such as Glaucoma or Macular Degeneration, until it has progressed well into damaging vision. It is vital to get preventative care and treat these conditions before the progress.

Our Medical Optometrists also treat dry eyediabetic eye, and can help diagnose cataracts.

If you are having any symptoms, such as flashing lights, diminished vision, or a sudden and dramatic increase in  vitreous "floaters," we recommend you see us right away.  We also want to be available for your schedule and can see you for a routine or comprehensive medical eye exam during most work days, the same day, if you call in advance to (623) 876-2020.

Thank you for selecting us to care for your vital vision needs.  Stay safe and well.
