Protect Your Eyes During Eclipse By Emilio Justo on August 18, 2017

On August 21, 2017, a solar eclipse will be visible across North America. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks any part of the sun. Even though the moon will be blocking parts of the sun, it still isn't safe to look directly at the sun. Below are some tips to keeping your eyes safe during the eclipse:

  • Only view the solar eclipse through special eclipse glasses or hand-held solar viewers. Homemade filters or regular sunglasses will not protect your eyes.
  • Watch it live on TV or  your computer, thanks to NASA's live streaming pagehere.
  • Cover your eyes with your eclipse glasses before looking into the sun. Look away from the sun before removing them.
  • Don't look at the sun through a camera, telescope, binoculars, or other lens. These lenses will not protect your eyes from the sun's rays.

Watch and share this video (click here!) to plan a safe viewing of the eclipse.
