Patients Love Our Practice
I have since moved from Arizona back east. I went to Arizona Eye Institute in Sun City for 15 years. They had done a wonderful job on my eyes. They were always very professional and I sure do miss them now.

The Benefits
of Intraocular Lenses
Improved Vision
IOLs allow your eyes to focus properly, free of the obstructions that cataracts present. Those living with IOLs describe a highly improved quality of life thanks to restored vision.
Safe Surgery
Intraocular lenses have been in use by ophthalmologists for decades, and new models undergo extensive testing before earning FDA-approval. Millions of cataract surgeries are performed in the United States every year, and it is considered a safe, low-risk procedure.
Reduced Reliance on Glasses
IOLs can minimize your need for corrective eyewear following cataract surgery. Some patients no longer need corrective eyewear at all after surgery. Dr. Justo will discuss your goals in order to help you achieve the results you want.
Several Options
At our practices in the Phoenix area, we can provide patients with several different varieties of intraocular lenses depending on each patient's unique needs. Whether you struggle with nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or some other vision problem, there is an IOL for you.

Introducing the New AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal Intraocular Lens
The Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center is proud to be among the very first eye care practices in the United States to offer the most advanced IOL yet produced, Alcon's AcrySof IQ PanOptix Trifocal Intraocular Lens. This game-changing lens became the first and only trifocal lens approved by the FDA in August of 2019. This premium lens was designed with modern life in mind, so it can allow you to effectively read on mobile devices and computer screens. The trifocal lens technology can improve vision at close, intermediate, and far distances. This new product is an exciting development in the field of cataract surgery, and Dr. Justo is excited to be able to offer it to his valued patients.
Types of Intraocular Lenses
At our practice, our surgeons implant different kinds of lenses based on the patient's needs and preferences. All of the standard and premium IOLs we provide are designed and manufactured by Alcon, a leading medical device company. We offer:
AcrySof IQ PanOptix Trifocal Intraocular Lens
The latest and greatest in multifocal IOL technology, the PanOptix Trifocal lens is well tested and clinically proven to produce excellent results for patients who are good candidates. The trifocal technology can allow patients to see dramatically more clearly at close, intermediate, and far distances without any, or with drastically minimized reliance on glasses or contact lenses, and it is especially effective at enduring the lights emitted by phone and computer screens. We are proud to be one of the first eye care centers in the United States to make this treatment available to our patients.
AcrySof Toric Lens
In addition to correcting vision after cataract surgery, this lens treats astigmatism. Astigmatism is characterized by having irregularly shaped corneas, and it is a common cause of visual blurring, halos and glare. The Toric IOL is precisely constructed to have different powers of correction in different portions of the lens, so the surgeon can orient the implant during surgery to compensate for your unique corneal shape. Like the other IOLs, Toric lenses have the potential to effectively restore your vision to such an extent that you no longer require glasses.
AcrySof IQ Aspheric Monofocal Lens Implant
This is the most common implant our surgeons place. A standard monofocal IOL effectively improves your vision at one fixed distance. Monofocal lenses do not adapt for different distances, so if your lens is focused on faraway objects, you will still require glasses for reading or seeing close-up. Despite their limitations, monofocal lenses can make a significant difference in patients' lives, correcting the cloudy vision caused by cataracts and reducing reliance on glasses.
AcrySof ReSTOR® Multifocal Intraocular Lens
Multifocal lenses work similarly to bifocals, so your vision will be improved for both near and far distances. Multifocal IOLs can empower you to read a book, watch TV, and read distant signs, leading to increased confidence and independence.
AcrySof IQ Vivity Lens
The AcrySof® IQ Vivity™ is a new multifocal IOL that provides a number of important advantages over other multifocal lenses. Cataract patients as well as presbyopic patients who choose the Vivity can experience better distance and intermediate vision, a reduced need for reading glasses, preserved night vision with less glare and halos, and enhanced contrast sensitivity. It is also available in a toric version to benefit patients with astigmatism.
More About the Amazing AcrySof IQ Vivity Lens
How Does it Work?
The Vivity uses proprietary technology to shift and stretch light as it enters your eye. This is how it allows you to see clearly at three different distances - far (distance), intermediate (arm’s length), and near (close to your eyes).
Is it Effective?
Yes. Studies show that over 90 percent of Vivity recipients were satisfied with the results it provides. That is a high rate of satisfied patients.
How Many Patients Have This Lens?
This life-changing Alcon lens was just recently introduced in the United States, but over 125 million people around the world have received Alcon-manufactured intraocular lenses, so you can be assured the Vivity comes from a trusted source of vision-correcting IOLs.
Any Halos or Glare?
Vivity intraocular lens recipients report very few halos and minimal glare caused when looking at light sources. This removes a bothersome side effect that can interfere with clear, sharp vision.

What Technology Is Involved?
Dr. Justo and his team utilize many advanced technologies during their cataract surgeries. These include the ORA® System, which provides ultra-precise measurements of your eyes and vision. Dr. Justo and his team use this technology to determine the best type of implant for you, as well as its ideal power and placement. This invaluable tool helps us to maximize the likelihood of an excellent outcome and to minimize the risk of needing a revisional procedure.
What Are the Risks of Intraocular Lenses?
Cataract surgery is a common procedure with a high success rate, and complications are rare. However, any surgery involves at least some risk. When it comes to intraocular lenses, the greatest risk is developing an eye infection. More serious risks include retinal detachment, loss of vision, or dislocation of the device. The best way that you, as a patient, can ensure the success of your procedure is to choose a reputable doctor with the right experience and an excellent reputation. We invite you to explore Dr. Justo's professional background to learn why so many patients throughout our area trust their ocular health to him.

How Long Does Recovery Take?
After intraocular lens placement, the full recovery time is approximately eight weeks. Your sight will probably be blurry for a few days. It's very important to avoid scratching, rubbing, or pressing on your eyes, as these actions could dislodge the artificial lens.
During recovery, Dr. Justo will prescribe special eye drops. For the best possible recovery, follow Dr. Justo's instructions regarding these eye drops, typically applying them twice a day to prevent irritation.
We will schedule a follow-up appointment a couple of days after surgery. Our practice will also schedule a follow-up about a week later, followed by another appointment in about a month's time. We are committed to the success of your procedure and are prepared to take every measure to ensure that your recovery and your results are a success.
Refractive Lens Exchange
While most commonly associated with cataract surgery, intraocular lenses are also utilized in other procedures, such as refractive lens exchange.
Refractive lens exchange is an elective procedure usually undergone as a preventive measure to preemptively address cataracts before they begin compromising your sight. Like cataract surgery, the procedure involves replacing the natural lens with an IOL.
Similarly to surgery for cataracts, the type of IOL used in a refractive lens exchange will vary from case to case based on the state of the eye and the goals of the surgery.
This procedure can reduce your dependence on glasses or contact lenses, and sometimes even relieve intraocular pressure in patients with mild to moderate glaucoma.
To learn more about this procedure, or the other services provided at our practice, schedule an appointment with us today. Dr. Justo can perform a detailed ocular examination to determine if refractive lens exchange is right for you. You can request a consultation online or call us:
