Post-operative Care
Cataract surgery is a safe, effective procedure to restore and improve your vision. If you are considering surgery, the most important step you can take is choosing a trusted, reputable surgeon.
Dr. Emilio Justo, founder of Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center, has years of experience performing cataract surgery. During a consultation, you can learn more about cataract surgery aftercare and healing. Our Phoenix-area practice features three convenient locations, serving patients in Sun City, Sun City West, Wickenburg and surrounding communities. Schedule a consultation with us today to learn more about how you can benefit from this procedure.

Aftercare Tips
Taking proper care of your eyes after surgery begins with a pre-operative counseling session with one of our knowledgeable technicians. During the appointment, you will receive a detailed explanation of eye drops you will be using before and after the procedure. These will foster healing and help you avoid the development of complications.
You will be prescribed three eye drops: one with antibiotic properties, and two anti-inflammatory drops. Typically, you will be instructed to use the drops twice a day, beginning two days before your surgery until roughly three weeks after. It is important that you adhere to the instructions to minimize the risk of infection. Though extremely rare, untreated infection after cataract surgery can ultimately result in vision loss. Other side effects, including red eye and minor irritation, may be observed, but are benign conditions and should resolve quickly.
Will I Experience Immediate Benefits?
Our practice prefers fast focus cataract surgery for its ability to impart nearly immediate vision enhancement. Many of our patients enjoy 20/20 vision the day after surgery. However, you may experience some slight blurring for a couple days as your eyes and brain adjust to your new intraocular lens (IOL).
Advanced technologies allow our practice to provide the best possible results. Previously, surgeons had to wait weeks to assess the results. Now, Dr. Justo is able receive real-time feedback on your results using the ORA® System. ORA®-guided surgery marks an exciting development in the field of cataract surgery, and our practice is proud to be one of the first in the state to use the system in-office.
Fine-tuning Your Vision
Dr. Justo meets personally with each of our patients to check that their healing is progressing smoothly. You will return to our office for periodic check-ups the day after surgery, and one week later. During this second post-operative appointment, your vision will be analyzed to determine whether you need a new glasses prescription. A long-term check-up at six months can further assess how your eyesight has benefited from the surgery.
