Reveal More Beautiful Skin
As people get older, their skin changes - both on the surface and deep underneath. These changes can cause wrinkles, lines, folds, irregularities in texture, and scarring. To effectively reduce signs of aging and rejuvenate the skin, treatment must address the top layer of skin and the deep levels of the dermis to stimulate the growth of new collagen and cells. Dr. Emilio M. Justo of the Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center uses LUMENIS® Encore UltraPulse® technology for deep laser skin resurfacing treatments at our Phoenix locations. If you'd like to learn more about how laser skin resurfacing can improve your appearance, please contact us today to set up a personal consultation with our team.
About Laser Skin Resurfacing with UltraPulse® Technology
The goal of laser skin resurfacing treatment is to remove the damaged surface layer of skin, and promote collagen and skin cell regeneration in the underlying layers. This combined approach smoothes wrinkles, acne scarring, and other irregularities in texture, while simultaneously improving the tone of the skin.
The LUMENIS® UltraPulse® is a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser that is considered the "gold standard" of fractional laser skin resurfacing technology because of its power, speed, and versatility. It is cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a variety of dermatology and plastic surgery indications, so patients can rely on its safety and capabilities.
During a treatment session with the UltraPulse® laser, the handpiece delivers short pulses of high energy laser light to the skin; this gently removes the top layer of tissue, and stimulates the formation of new collagen. Collagen formation continues up to six months, so results are long-lasting.
Patients typically do not experience much pain or discomfort during a laser skin resurfacing treatment; however, this procedure is commonly performed under intravenous sedation administered by our anesthetist for maximum patient comfort. Laser skin resurfacing is customized to the particular patient's needs and goals; the versatility of UltraPulse® technology makes a range of treatment options possible.

Risks of Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is a common and safe procedure that many of our Phoenix patients love. Common side effects include crusting, mild swelling, and brown discoloration on the treatment areas, which disappear as the patient recovers. More serious complications include scarring, infection, or loss of pigmentation; however, these risks are minimized if the proper surgical techniques and pre-and post-operative instructions are followed. One of the most important post-operative guidelines is to carefully protect the skin from sunlight in the days immediately following treatment.
